The University van Amsterdam (UvA) is the largest university of the Netherlands and a core member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU). The university is host to over 30.000 students, offering Bachelor and Masters degrees, as well as highly competitive PhD programs. The Faculty of Science at the UvA embeds a concentration of e-Science development and application groups. With over 1500 publications and 100 PhD theses per year, the faculty is an important player in the research of the Netherlands. Furthermore, the Faculty of Science is located in the Science Park Amsterdam, and benefits from its central position: the park holds the main European Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), one of the SURFnet core locations including the optical network exchange NetherLight, the national supercomputer and grid center (Surf-SARA), the Netherlands eScience Center (NLeSc) and a number of Dutch Science Organisation institutes (CWI, NIKHEF). UvA has been rewarded the HR Excellence Logo from the European Commission, signifying recognition of the UvA's HR policy and compliance with the ‘European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers'.
